Yev Gelman
DIRECTOR
Yev Gelman (he/him) is, among other things, a theatre artist currently based in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Originally from Moscow, and with family scattered across the globe, Yev uses his work to build communities small and large wherever he goes, with particular care for others who, like him, live their lives in the in-between. As a multidisciplinary artist, Yev’s love of theatre comes from its unique potential to combine visual, textual, and multi-sensory storytelling. Through theatre, Yev believes he is best able to connect to both his audience and fellow collaborators, resulting in work that, though at times surreal, is always rooted in human vulnerability and desire to know and be known by those around us. Whether as a part of a new play development process, or in an ensemble-oriented reimagining of existent texts, Yev is committed to staging authentic, visually powerful performance. In addition to directing, Yev is an aspiring projection designer for the stage, and Fordham Theatre’s unofficial poster artist in residence. When not making art, Yev enjoys reading, biking, and picking tomatoes from his garden.
